Paraguay, no one had ever mentioned it to us before we set foot there. And maybe there’s a reason for that. This country, the great forgotten gem of South American itineraries, offered us something rare: the feeling of being the only travelers in an entire country. We’re not going to lie to you, we didn’t find this country very interesting, either culturally or gastronomically speaking.
Our stories from Paraguay capture that strange and exhilarating sensation of discovering a country without a user’s manual. In Asunción, we wandered through Mercado 4, a labyrinth of stalls where vendors eyed us curiously before handing us a tereré (iced mate) with a smile.

About Our Travel Blog
Mathilde and I chose to travel slowly, favouring overland transport and real exchanges with locals. That slower-than-average pace let us experience things a classic itinerary never would: staying with a family in a village with no tourists, sharing an impromptu meal on the side of a Bolivian road, or stumbling on an archaeological site no guidebook mentions. That's what we share here.
