Nestled at the foot of the Andes, Mendoza has established itself as the perfect crossroads of nature, gastronomy, and culture. Today, its appeal to travelers lies in this wonderful balance of vineyards, hot springs, mountains, and an easygoing city vibe.
We arrived in Mendoza with a set plan in mind, but as often happens when you’re on the road, we adjusted things on the fly. And that’s exactly what made the whole experience flow so much better.
Which hostel should you choose to experience Mendoza?
We dropped our bags at the Dale Hostel, a friendly spot with a real community vibe. It’s the kind of place where it’s super easy to meet fellow travelers, and the team regularly puts on activities like pizza nights, asados, or city outings. The biggest plus is definitely the support you get: handy tips, local deals, and recommendations tailored to your budget and schedule.
The place is cleaned regularly, which is always a treat when you’re on a long trip, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to stay flexible with your plans.

What to do in Mendoza?
Exploring the region’s vineyards
Visiting the vineyards is the ultimate highlight here in Mendoza. You have a few great options depending on your travel style.
Renting a bike is the most popular way to go, though it usually limits you to two or three wineries if you want to take your time and truly enjoy the tastings. If you go by car, you can drive straight to specific bodegas and join up with tasting groups on-site—just make sure to book ahead of time!
On our end, we chose to go with a local guide. It was a great way to get off the beaten track and mix things up a bit. The day was a perfect blend of wine tasting, discovering a craft gin, sampling local olive oil, and indulging in some chocolate. It felt like a much more well-rounded approach that gave us a real taste of the region’s craftsmanship.
A day at the Cacheuta thermal baths
The Termas de Cacheuta are located about a one-hour drive from Mendoza. The journey itself lets you feel the change of scenery, with the mountains gradually drawing closer.
Once there, you will find a wonderful local atmosphere. You will see families and groups of friends, often gathered around an impromptu asado. Your best bet is to pack a picnic and plan to spend the whole day relaxing and enjoying the pools.
You can also combine your day with a rafting trip booked through an external agency, or simply choose one of the packages offered on the thermal baths’ official website.
Taking the time to truly experience Mendoza
Between excursions, Mendoza is the perfect place to simply wander. The city center is incredibly pleasant, with wide, tree-lined avenues that offer a welcome respite from the heat. You’ll find plenty of lively squares, easy-to-visit museums, and heaps of cafés to just sit back and watch the world go by.
It’s an easy city to settle into, especially after some of the more demanding legs of your journey.

Generally speaking, plenty of restaurants along the main avenues get excellent reviews and fit all kinds of budgets. The recommendations from your hostel are usually a safe bet, too.
