If, like us, you decided to stop in Valladolid and visit Chichén Itzá – first of all, that’s an excellent idea, as the town is lovely! Secondly, getting to Chichén Itzá from the town is very easy.
Option 1: The most practical and economical – The colectivo:
Right in the city center, there is a small colectivo (shared shuttle) terminal with departures for Chichén Itzá every 20 to 30 minutes.
No reservation is needed; simply head to the terminal to buy your tickets.
They offer round-trip service between Valladolid and Chichén Itzá, as well as a combo deal that includes admission to the Ik Kil Cenote, located near Chichén Itzá.
With the second option, the colectivo drops you off at the cenote after your tour, and once you’ve finished your swim, you can catch another colectivo back to town.
We recommend this package because there is no extra cost, the shuttles are reliable and frequent, and a swim after the tour feels great!
Cost: 100 pesos per person for the round trip – 370 pesos for the option including cenote admission.
Option 2: The most popular – The ADO bus
Right next to the small colectivo terminal is a larger ADO bus terminal (the country’s main bus line), with departures for Chichén Itzá.
The price is slightly higher than taking a colectivo, but at least you can book your ticket online in advance, guaranteeing a comfortable ride at a scheduled time.
However, they do not offer a stop at the cenote, so this option is strictly for the round trip between Valladolid and Chichén Itzá.

Option 3: The most comfortable – the taxi
The final option for getting to Chichén Itzá is the most comfortable: a taxi. Several companies offer this service, providing round-trip transport from the city or directly from your accommodation.
To find a reliable taxi, we recommend asking your host or checking Facebook groups like “Francophones in Mexico” (or similar); this will help you avoid hassles or scams.
Cost: around 850 pesos per car for the round trip.
